Jagielnica

This is the town of Jagielnica, where many of the Ornstein and Moser ancestors lived, until the Pograms began.

  1. I'm not an Ornstein, but my father's family originated in Jagielnica (Yahil'nytsia).

In case you didn't know, there was Jagielnica Landsmanshaft, or burial society, that operated 2 sections in Mt Zion Cemetery in Maspeth, Queens County, NY. In Yiddish the society was called the "Jagielnitzer Kranken Unt Verein" which was a sickness and burial society.

My grandfather and great-grandfather are both buried there. There is a very usable database online for the cemetery at http://www.mountzioncemetery.com/search.asp

For the society name, enter just the word JAGIELNITZER.

You'll find that there are 5 people buried there named Moser, and 1 named Orenstein. I'm not sure if they were related to you, but I don't believe the town was that large.
